This exceptional place is a concept in itself.
It is made up of two categories of restaurants: Brasserie and Restaurant, with entering the Brasserie space on your left, the Restaurant one, on your right.
I assure you, you eat just as well on both sides, the "Brasserie" corner will be a little cheaper and above all you don't need to book. To have diner at the "restaurant" of La Closerie, you might as well book a table.
Every layout comes with the latest social features built in. Readers can easily share posts on social networks like Facebook and Twitter and view how many people have liked a post, made comments and more.
La Closerie des Lilas is one of the mythical restaurants of Montparnasse
It is where all the left bank intelligentsia and artists gathered during the Belle Epoque (early 20th century).
With the four other great brasseries of Montparnasse, the Closerie des Lilas was the place of the Impressionist painters of the 1900s, those whose works you can admire mainly at the Musée d'Orsay.
Imagine that Pissaro, Renoir, Monet, Cézanne came to drink and eat there very regularly, alternating with the other brasseries of Montparnasse !
They spent their lives in this neighborhood and that is why we end up calling them "the Montparnos".
They were joined by Emile Zola, the poet Verlaine and then all the American intellectuals who had come to live or stay for a long time in Paris: Hemingway, Arthur Miller, Fitzgerald, Samuel Beckett, Oscar Wilde...
It is even said that it was on the terrace of the Closerie des Lilas that Fitzgerald read Hemingway his manuscript of “The Great Gatsby”!
I had the chance to be invited to my last birthday for a sumptuous meal in the restaurant with the big game: Champagne, Foie gras, Caviar and tutti quanti while the pianist was particularly in good shape that evening because yes! if you are looking for a typical Parisian place to eat with a piano bar in the background and a Jazzy repertoire, French songs: this is the place to come!
Needless to say, the service there is particularly impeccable and according to the rules of the art: Maître d'Hôtel, sommelier, super professional and accommodating waiters: a real moment of relaxation with a glamorous but authentic menu.
Flawless throughout the experience!
And the place is still loaded with all these beautiful souls who have frequented it...
Furtherwise, as like with the Café de Flore and the Deux magots boulevard Saint-Germain, a Literary Prize is held there every Spring, a very special Prize since it is an exclusive female rewarding prize !
